A Colorado company has taken action to help prevent the mortal practice of texting while driving. A former chemical engineer initiated development of an anti-texting technology, in the form of a device, in 2008, after an executive with whom he planned to meet was killed by a distracted driver. According to the engineer, the at-fault driver in that incident was texting and driving at the same time.
One woman was killed and two people were injured in a crash involving three vehicles that happened on U.S. 6 between tunnels 1 and 2 in Clear Creek Canyon. The deadly crash happened at approximately 3:30 p.m. on August 13. As of 10:30 p.m. on the day of the accident, the roadway was closed indefinitely between Golden and U.S. 119.
Following an accident in which a 91-year-old woman and two others were killed the morning of July 30, authorities announced they have cited a resident of Delta for reckless driving. The wreck reportedly occurred when the Nissan SUV the elderly woman was riding in was hit by the man, who was driving a Toyota, at about 10:25 a.m. on U.S. Highway 550 north of Durango. The southbound 2008 Toyota had drifted into oncoming traffic when it collided with the 2002 Nissan. The 60-year-old driver of the Nissan and a 33-year-old passenger in the Toyota both suffered serious injuries while two 61-year-old male passengers in the Toyota were also killed in the accident.
According to authorities, a wrong-way collision near Las Animas left one woman dead and three people seriously injured. The July 5 incident reportedly involved two vehicles on Highway 50 at about 10:00 a.m.
A 48-year-old man was fatally injured on June 24 when his motorcycle was allegedly struck by a jeep in Colorado Springs. The motor vehicle accident on Research Parkway occurred at about 4:50 p.m. near Chapel Hills Drive.
On June 21, at approximately 7:25 a.m., a fatal accident took place on Interstate 25 near Walsenburg, Colorado. Authorities report that a woman fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into another vehicle. The accident left one dead and two others injured.
