Avoid these 3 mistakes after a car accident

Car accidents are serious. Even if they do not result in any injuries or deaths, they can impact people's lives significantly. In one recent accident, 20 cars piled up, forcing roadways to close temporarily. Only minor injuries occurred from this instance.

Auto accidents are dangerous, and you need to protect yourself and your finances immediately after. Part of this involves avoiding common mistakes many Colorado drivers make after car collisions. Here are some of the most common missteps you need to avoid at all costs.

1. Not contacting the police

You need to call the police for any car crash, no matter how minor it seems. The police will come out to create an official report. They will interview both parties as well as any witnesses who saw the crash. This report will help you immensely, especially if you know the other driver is primarily at fault for the crash. Additionally, the cops can collect evidence at the scene you may not realize you need.

2. Denying medical help

The police will ask you if you need an ambulance to take you to the hospital. You can deny the ambulance ride if you want, but you should see a doctor within 24 hours of the crash. You may feel perfectly fine, but concussions and shoulder injuries may not show symptoms until days later. You need to present a clear connection between your injuries and the crash, and that involves seeing a doctor as soon as possible.

3. Settling with your insurance company quickly

You also need to get in touch with your auto insurance provider shortly after the collision. Many insurance companies appear hospitable at first and provide you with a quick settlement. This may seem too good to be true, and it often is. You need to have your attorney review this deal first. You want to make sure the settlement will cover all costs, including medical and auto repair expenses.
