NHTSA reports record number of auto recalls in 2015

Colorado vehicle owners should be aware that around 51 million cars, trucks and SUVs were recalled in 2015. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, this record number was caused in part by government enforcement becoming more strict and recalls involving exploding air bags.

Cough syrup recall could impact Colorado parents

The Perrigo Company, a manufacturer of over-the-counter medications, is recalling its children's guaifenesin grape liquid and children's guaifenesin DM cherry liquid cough syrup. It cited incorrect markings on the dosing cup as the reason for the recall, saying that it could lead to an accidental overdose. A statement from the company's CEO said that there had been no reports of any adverse events, but that the recall was still the right thing to do.

Subdural hematomas are more common in the elderly

A simple bump on the head may have the potential for serious injury to a Colorado resident, especially if the person is over 60 years of age. A subdural hematoma is defined as the occurrence of blood pooling on the brain's surface. The pool may continue to enlarge and begin to press on the brain which causes damage.

FDA to classify vaginal mesh implants as high risk

Mesh implants used by women in Colorado and across the country to repair the collapse of pelvic tissues and organs have been the cause of thousands of personal injury lawsuits. Previously classified as a moderately risky medical implant by the Food and Drug Administration, regulators have decided to label the implants as high risk when they are surgically inserted through the vagina.

Self-driving cars challenged by human drivers

The advent of self-driving cars has brought with it some unexpected issues, and they should be addressed before these new vehicles are ready for the streets of Colorado. Although there have been no problems reported whatsoever of dangerous driving, nor have there been any fatalities or injuries in any accident relating to self driving cars, this does not mean that there have been no accidents. As a matter of fact, reports indicate that self-driving cars seem to get into accidents approximately twice the rate of cars with drivers.
