Intersection crash in Colorado kills 1

One person was killed in a two-car accident that happened in Pueblo on July 4. The accident took place at the intersection of 24th Street and Colorado 45 at around 8:15 a.m. According to Colorado State Patrol troopers, the crash was not a result of drunk driving or speeding, but driver distraction may have been a factor.

The car collision occurred when a 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck was stopped at a red light on southbound Colorado 45. When the light turned green, a 2008 Pontiac that was headed the same direction struck the Chevrolet from behind. Both cars continued to travel through the intersection until the Chevrolet stopped along the right shoulder, and the Pontiac stopped along the left shoulder.

The 28-year-old driver of the Pontiac and her 59-year-old female passenger were not wearing seat belts during the accident. The Pontiac passenger was declared dead at the scene, and the driver was taken to Parkview Hospital. Both the 34-year-old driver of the Chevrolet and his 29-year-old male passenger were wearing seat belts. Emergency personnel took the Chevrolet passenger to St. Mary Corwin Medical Center, but the Chevrolet driver did not require hospital treatment.

In rear-end motor vehicle accidents, the driver that was in the back is often at fault. A lawyer may be able to help an injured victim of this type of accident to gather key pieces of evidence to establish a driver's liability. If a driver is suspected of being distracted before an accident, cell phone records and eyewitness testimony may help to build a victim's claim for damages.
