Honda issues new recall because of faulty airbags

Colorado residents who own Honda vehicles may be interested to learn that Honda Motor Co has issued another recall, this time involving 4.5 million of its cars due to hazardous airbag inflators. So far, eight deaths have been linked to the defective Takata Corp airbag inflators in Honda vehicles. It is unclear if there have been any lawsuits filed because of Takata airbag inflators.

According to reports, Takata airbags may explode when excessive force is applied to them. The explosion of the airbags can cause metal and plastic fragments to be expelled. For more than 10 years, faulty Takata airbag inflators have caused vehicle manufacturers to issue one recall after another. Several carmakers, including Honda, BMW and Toyota, have had to recall their vehicles that have those airbags. Honda has been more affected by the issues with Takata airbags than other carmakers.

The latest recall by Honda covers 4.5 million vehicles of various models like the Honda CR-V and the Honda Fit. Previously, Honda had issued a preventative recall in May that included 4.8 million vehicles. An official announcement from Honda explained that the recall and replacement of Takata airbag inflators was an unprecedented challenge for the automotive industry. Honda also said that its chief concern was the protection of Honda drivers and passengers.

After a car accident, an in-depth investigation may need to be completed to determine the cause. In some cases, investigators discover that a faulty vehicle part was responsible for a car accident or caused the victims' injuries to be more severe. A lawyer may be able to help a victim in this type of accident to file a product liability claim against the manufacturer.
