Keurig recalling millions of coffee makers after burn reports

Some coffee drinkers in Colorado might have to reevaluate how they brew their morning cup. On Dec. 23, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that Keurig Green Mountain was recalling over 6.6 million coffee makers in the United States. The coffee makers affected by the recall are the K10 Mini Plus Brewing Systems that were sold in Canada and the U.S. from 2009 to 2014. The coffee makers were sold both online and in stores.

According to Keurig, the affected coffee makers could potentially overheat while coffee is being brewed. The hot water could then spray outside of the brewer, leading to burn injuries. So far, Keurig has received 90 reports of customers who suffered from burn-related injuries while using their products. A total of 200 reports have come in to Keurig about coffee makers spewing hot liquid while brewing. It is unclear if Keurig has been targeted for any products liability claims.

Individuals who believe they may have purchased one of the affected coffee makers should look at the identification number on the underside of their Keurig brewing system. The number will start with '31" if the brewing system is the model that is being recalled.

A person who has suffered injuries due to defective products may decide to pursue legal action against the manufacturer. An attorney may assist with a product liability claim against the negligent entity to receive financial compensation for any related medical expenses or loss of work as a result of any short-term disability or recovery time.
